But apparently he and his family were already on that land before the grant. He was a member of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, and in 1797 migrated with his family to Burke County, Georgia.įor his Revolutionary War service he was granted 450 acres of land by the state in the upper part of Liberty County in 1816. He married Ann Lee of the Black River settlement of Pender County, and their children were John, Neal, William, James, Robert Jr., George, Archibald, Elizabeth Ann, and Mary Hendry. He emigrated with his parents to America before the Revolutionary War, and settled in what in 1984 was Pender County, South Carolina. He was born on the Island of Aaran, Scotland, son of John Hendry.
